Mergers and acquisitions.

Is a merger the same as an acquisition?

Merger is a legal term for the purchase of an entire business whereas acquisition refers to the purchase of some equity and or some non equity assets. Critically neither refers to collaboration between firms where technologies or services merge in the form of co-marketing, code sharing, co design and development and so on and so forth.
